The following is a sampling of the work that Planting Seeds Consulting has undertaken since its founding in 2022.
CITY OF SAN LEANDRO
Developing a Network of Resilience Hubs
Planting Seeds was hired by the City of San Leandro’s Sustainability Department to develop a network of resilience hubs. From April 2022 until June 2023 Susan worked closely with Sustainability Manager Dr. Hoi-Fei Mok. Work included recruiting 7 sites as resilience hubs, a monthly online capacity building workshop series, promoting the sites. The program culminated in a sheet mulching demonstration workshop at Temple Beth Sholom, a designated resilience hub.
East Oakland Collective:
Early Stage Resilience Hub Development
Susan Silber was hired by East Oakland Collective to lead their initial development as a resilience hub. The work includes interviews with key stakeholders, community visioning sessions and surveys to community members. The work is culminating in a strategic plan that integrates the USDN’s five components and how the warehouse could be utilized for both day-to-day services and during emergencies.
SOUTH BAY:
Community Resilience Workshop Series
Susan teamed up with her oldtime colleague and friend Leslie Meehan to support a 4-part workshop series. I helped to develop the website, workshop curriculum, spoke about the resilience hubs and facilitated a number of breakout sessions. The session attracted more than 40 participants from both community-based organizations and local governments.

5-part Grant Writing Course
Susan Silber was hired by East Oakland Collective to lead their initial development as a resilience hub. The work includes interviews with key stakeholders, community visioning sessions and surveys to community members. Pachamama Alliance:
Online Workshop Series for Grassroots Climate Activists
Susan was invited by the international organization Pachamama Alliance to plan and implement two workshops for their community of climate change activities. The first workshop “Collaborating with Government Partners” shared best practices and practical tips for starting partnerships with local governmental organizations. The second workshop series, “Fundraising for Climate Activists” introduced a variety of strategies for community members new to fundraising, from individual donors to grantwriting.
